Ferguson begins Southern National Series trek at Beckley and Wythe
Carson Ferguson and the Paylor Motorsports No. 93 team began the hunt for their second Southern Nationals Series championship on Friday evening at Beckley Motor Speedway (Beckley, W.Va.) for the first round of the series.
After a lengthy rain delay, Carson laid down the fastest qualifying lap in his group and was victorious in his heat race. Starting the $10,053-to-win feature from the pole, Ferguson battled with the front-runners before blowing a tire with just 7 laps to go. He recorded an 11th-place finish.
Saturday's event at Wythe Raceway (Rural Retreat, Va.) was postponed to Sunday.
With 23 Late Models returning to Wythe for it's rescheduled date, Ferguson earned a second-row starting position in the feature after once again winning his heat race. For the second $10,053-to-win feature of the weekend, Carson quickly moved into the runner-up position but was unable to catch race-long leader Dale McDowell. Ferguson settled for second ahead of his cousin Chris Ferguson, Ross Bailes, and Donald McIntosh who completed the Top-5.
Carson currently sits fourth in the Southern Nationals point standings.
